Volunteers Needed for Provincials

| February 26, 2013

Please come out and help us!

The final part of the ASA series…Alberta Championship…is fast approaching next weekend March 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 2013 at Canada Olympic Park. The focus of this Provincial event is to identify our riders that will qualify to participate in Nationals in Halfpipe and Slopestyle. We will also be featuring an opportunity on Saturday for those riders that may be interested in participating in snowboarding at speed events rather than freestyle with a parallel slalom race on Saturday Mar 2nd.

Your help is much needed and would be appreciated!!! We still have many volunteer spots available that need to be filled in order to run the weekend events and to make them a success. To say “Thank You” for helping out, volunteer names will be included in a draw for a prize at the end of the weekend and will also receive a voucher to use at the COP food venues to buy your lunch. The more volunteers we can have on hand, the shorter we could schedule your shifts. However, there will always be someone around to relieve you during your shift for a quick lunch or washroom break. Every volunteer will receive a short orientation at the beginning of their shift to ensure you are aware and confident with your duties. For any of the positions outside, you will be in a position to watch the entire competition and not miss your son or daughter with the best vantage point on the hill. If you or anyone you know would be interested with assisting us at our final event for the season, please contact me as soon as possible to let me know where you could help out.

Volunteers are required for the following:

Friday March 1st – Halfpipe:
Registration Assistants (2) – 2:45pm-4pm… an indoor position…ensuring all riders have paid their fees and all their information is correct, as well as, distribute bibs to riders and coaches
Herder (2 can rotate 1 at a time) – 4:00pm – 8:30pm…an outdoor position…assist the starter and assistant starter with preparing the order for the riders during the competition
Tabulator Assistant (1) 4:00 – 8:00pm…an indoor position…assist the tabulator in entering judges scores for the riders

Saturday Mar 2nd
Registration Assistants (4) – 8:15am-10am… an indoor position…ensuring all riders have paid their fees and all their information is correct, as well as, distribute bibs to riders and coaches

Sunday Mar 3rd
Registration Assistants (3) – 8:15am – 10:00am…an indoor position…ensuring all riders have paid their appropriate fees and all their information is correct, as well as, distribute bibs to riders and coaches
Spotters/Marshalls (8) 9:45am – 3:30pm…an outside position…ensuring safety of riders during the competition
Runners – (2) 11am – 4pm…on boards or skis…responsible for taking the judges scores to the tabulator for processing
Tabulator Assistant (1) – 9am-4pm…most likely an indoor position, however, you should be prepared to be outside for the day

One important position that has recently been left vacant is that of Tabulator during competitions, especially those that have FIS and TTR designations. This position is possibly a paid position. As a Tabulator you are required to possess excellent computer skills, you are responsible for collecting judges results and applying them to the appropriate athlete in confidence. At the end of the competition you and the judges are responsible for calculating and posting accurate competition results. This position does require training prior to competitions, and performing the duties in confidence during the competitions. Once you have completed training you should be available to work throughout the snowboarding season at ASA sponsored events as well as various other snowboarding competitions in and out of Calgary. Please let us know if this is something you would be interested in as soon as possible and we will see what we can do to get you started this season and for competitions in the future seasons.

Thank you very much to those that have helped us out at past ASA events this season and helping us to make this year a success for the snowboarders. If this will be your first ASA event to volunteer at, thank you for stepping up to help us out.  I look forward to seeing you all at the ASA Provincial Championships Mar 1-3, 2013. our success going and continue to generate the fun and opportunities for our future amazing athletes in snowboarding.

See you on the slopes!
